This is a question that many people start to ask themselves before entering into the business world. How do I start out? There is many reasons to why you should start a business and become an entrepreneur. It’s most about earning more money and having more time. The benefits you get are freedom if you are able to tap into a field that gives you all the customers you would ever need. But that’s the tough part. You should also realize that just becoming an entrepreneur because of money is not lasting very long. Because you have to get or have a passion for your customers. They become your new boss. Do as they say and you will get paid a lot.

So what is an entrepreneur? It’s a person who starts a business based on an idea, and make the business work. When the business is going by itself you have been a successful entrepreneur. But most business startups by entrepreneurs fail, about 90% fail in their first 10 years. The statistics are working hard against you. But it’s more likely to be become a successful entrepreneur than winning the lottery.

How to become an entrepreneur? Well, as you read about many successful entrepreneurs, they have quit school or university. That may lead you to think that they stop studying. But if you know anyone that has started their business, you will know that they keep learning every day. Reading books, papers, blogs, listening to audio books, attending seminars/webinars and paying big bucks to learn the latest tactics and best practices of business, psychology, sales, marketing and how to keep motivation.

 

I have prepared a little list here for you of the TOP 20 bullet points of how to become an entrepreneur:

  1. Find a need in the marketplace.
  2. Find a solution to that need.
  3. If there are solutions in the marketplace, can you make a cheaper, better or an improvement to that solution? Do it! Or skip to the next need and start over.
  4. Study as much as you can on every topic your business evolve around. Especially marketing and sales. No sales = Failure.
  5. Surround yourself with smarter and better people as soon as you can. Don’t be the best yourself, manage the people you hire.
  6. If you hate managing, hire a manager and become a leader instead.
  7. Be BOLD. Sometimes you got to make tough decisions. It’s these moments that will define your success or failure.
  8. Change fast! If something doesn’t work. Change. Try something different.
  9. Build a network. Almost all big cities have some sort of masterminds or business groups you can be part of. Then you can discuss business strategies with likeminded people and get free advice. But you got to contribute yourself, help were you can.
  10. Be coachable. Learn from others and listen to what successful people are telling you. It’s easy to think that you know best. But it usually doesn’t matter what product or service you got. The business aspect is the same.
  11. Track everything you do. Because then you can go back and replicate the process if it works. Take notes all the time.
  12. Interview your customers on a regular basis of what they need. Maybe you could add a new product or service to make your profits bigger and customers more happy?
  13. Be transparent. Things can go wrong, but be open and solution oriented about it and make your team work with you.
  14. Are your business scalable? What I mean about that is it possible for you to have 1000 customers more tomorrow? Can you handle it? Have a plan for growth and you will not have a problem with more customers and hiring people to do the work, even better if it can be automated with computers or robots.
  15. Break your business into 5 different parts. Improve them by 15% each. Like getting 15% more customers, convert 15% more leads, raise your price by 15%, you get it. If you do that with 5 parts of your business, you will have a 100% growth!
  16. Have fun! Don’t be too serious and laugh much. If you and your employees have fun, productivity will skyrocket and you will easy of the stress.
  17. Take vacations. This is the best test for any business to see if you can be away and still have the business running. Note down anything that goes wrong or something you got to fix while you are away. Then make processes for all the things to run without you, then you get more free time to think and improve the business when you are working.
  18. Don’t take your work home! This is important if you got a family. It will destroy it. Be done with everything that needs to be done before you go home. Write down a list of all the things you think about doing, that you have to do tomorrow, this will free your mind and you can focus 100% on the family.
  19. Get a great accountant and banker. This way you will have some people that are good with numbers and can help you when you need loans or need to save taxes. You never know, become friends with them.
  20. If you are tired of the business and its doing great. Try making it run without you or sell it to free up time, your mind and liquidate the asset you built. You deserve it by now!

So now you know how to become an entrepreneur, or the skeleton of it. All this bullet points have a lot behind them. You need to study each bullet point and get to know them, search them up, read, listen, attend seminars and practice the knowledge. A business is a process and entrepreneurship is a process.

It´s a hard time doing business. At least thats what the media dictates to you. But is it really? There a millionaires and billionaires created every day, out of thin air.

Just look at Facebook.

But how can you create a business which is creating great value for your customers, before you even got the product? Discover it soon…

Because all business is based upon something that is very simple, but few actually get it. Even great marketers fail at this. Still wondering?

Well you have to get into the mind of the customers. Deep into it, to understand something, the basics which drive us every day.

The NEED and WANTS. Thats where you are going to make a lot of money if you just get a grasp on it. Because WANTS is an iPhone 5 right now, because its hot. You don´t need it if you got an iPhone 4S but thats just what you want, if you dont got the cash for it you will drop it.

But if you have a NEED, then you will do anything to get it rigth NOW.

So if you get of the pc for a little bit. Pick up a phone and call several people in an industry you want to deliver some value to, and just interview them about their day at work, you will get great info about a need. Ask them about their day, what they do from they get into the office until they pack up and go home. Take lots of notes and make them rate their pain level of each activity and the time consumed to do this activity.

After you got the list. Look at the top pain points they got. Are this something you could solve for them? Using less resources, time and money than they do today? Then Create it! NOW! Go do it! Stop reading!

Because if you create something that can save someone pain, time and money. They will buy it.

Discoverys on a Sunday

Today I had a really slow day. Just playing with my new Macbook Air 2011 and coming up with some things I needed, and something you maybe need to make easier use of your mac.

1. Rip DVDs with RipIT

I had the need to get rid of some CD/DVDs, so I though I would just put them on the harddrive. I was looking for an easy to use ripping software, what I found is RipIt, which is a software from a little company that sells it for about $20. Its really easy to use, and makes a copy of the entire DVD not any loss in quality to the movie. After you install it, a little window shows up, put in your DVD and click on rip it! Thats it! Cant be easier than this.

2. Putty for Mac OS? Does it exist?

I needed to get into a server with SSH. I first thought about Putty that I use in windows to accomplish tasks through SSH. Then I found out that the Terminal in Mac OS can be used for this task. Just type in “Terminal” in  Spotlight, click on it when it shows up, and write the following to connect to the server with SSH: ssh -X username@address. Then you put in your password and is ready to do what you want.

3. Mind mapping

I use MindMeister on my iPad but wanted to test some new mind mapping software to use on my Mac. I found this site: http://mac.appstorm.net/roundups/graphics-roundups/9-mind-mapping-tools-for-mac/ I explains a little about some different types and I tested the free one called FreeMind and MindNode2, of those to I got stuck using MindNode2 as it is easier to a Mac user than the other one, it blends more in and gives a cleaner look, FreeMind has some limitations that makes it unusable to me. Test the ones out at the page above to find your favorite.

How to go to from ZERO or some connections on LinkedIn.com to about 800+ in 48 hours!

I don’t know about you, but connections, followers or friends in social media is really important to being able to spread your message and get on top of your area of interest or business.

So how about a quick way to get to over 800+ connections on LinkedIn.com?

See proof here got 500+ connections: http://no.linkedin.com/in/matsholmvik last week it was about 50-100 or something, I don’t remember.

It’s really easy. Just go to this page: Linked in connections

Click to sign up, its free, fill in name, email, password and choose the free version. Confirm your email and you are up and running.

Then go to Build Your Networks, click the link on the bottom of the page for the invite list. And download the 4 spreadsheets of emails of people willing to join your network, about 500 in each file.

Then head over to www.linkedin.com and click on CONTACTS  -> ADD Contacts. On the right side you will find a box, paste all the emails there and send invitations! Done!

Now you just have to wait for people to see your invitations, and most of them will accept your invite. And wait about 48 hours, then you will have 800+ connections like me!

How I got 50% more in gross sales in 3 easy steps

Ever wondered why your sales numbers got stuck? I have, and I researched ways to get it even higher. Now it’s crunched down to only 3 easy steps for you to follow. How would 50% more in sales feel to you?

Ok so lets begin.

Starting point:

You got to have some overview of what you are doing, know your numbers as they say. The numbers you need for this to work is how much daily traffic you got to your salespage, what the conversion rate is and the price of your product or service.

In my example I will keep the numbers easy.

Example:

Traffic: 1000 visitors

Conversion: 1 percent

Price of product: $19

Period: a month or 30 days.

Sum of sales is in this example $5700.

Step 1 in your 50% increase in sales: Traffic

If you bump your traffic by only 15% this would directly go to your bottom line as 15% extra profit if all the other numbers stay the same. Will i be hard for you to get that little traffic extra? What will you have to do? Write an extra blog post, submit more articles, comment more on other blogs? It will not be much, but I know you can do it.

Here are the numbers after a 15% increase in traffic:

Traffic: 1150 visitors

Conversion: 1 percent

Price of product: $19

Period: a month or 30 days.

Sum of sales is in this example $6555. (Whopping 15% extra cash in pocket! 🙂 )

 

Step 2 in your 50% increase in sales: Conversion

So now I dare you to increase your conversion of the salespage by 15%. Is this possible? Instead of 1% conversion you will then get 1,15 percent conversion rate. You can do this by split testing (look it up on tha internet) and changing parts of your salespage, adding new fresh images, give a better guarantee or get (more) testimonials on your page. This will help in the conversion and can easy make this little increase in the conversion rate. Go do it!

Here are the numbers after a 15% increase in conversion:

Traffic: 1150 visitors

Conversion: 1,15 percent

Price of product: $19

Period: a month or 30 days.

Sum of sales is in this example $7538. (Whopping 30%+ extra cash in pocket, than to begin with! 🙂 )

 

Step 3 in your 50% increase in sales: Price

Are you stuck in your pricepoint? People value products and services after price. But a little change in the price wouldnt hurt your sales. At least not just 15% increase. The price in this example will go from $19 to $21.85 and thats not much at all. People spend more than that at Mc Donalds when they opt in for a bigger meal or adds a desert. So this is maybe the easiest part of the challenge. Thats why I kept it as the last one. So lets go over our numbers again.

Here are the numbers after a 15% increase in price:

Traffic: 1150 visitors

Conversion: 1,15 percent

Price of product: $21,85

Period: a month or 30 days.

Sum of sales is in this example $8668. (Whopping 50%+ extra cash in pocket, than to begin with! 🙂 )

Top 5 Basic tips to any Twitter Newbie

Twitter has become one of the biggest and greatest sources of traffic and big audiences. You can reach out to many people in just a few seconds with an established or new twitter account. This can make a great impact on your business if you use it wisely.

So I have come up with 5 tips to you so you don’t waste a lot of time and effort into something that could stop twitter working for you.

1. You got to reach out to people and show them that you are present and reachable. You should ask people in your field questions and answer the questions of others that you find. If you don’t have anything to add to the conversation just drop it, people know if you are a spammer. So you should use the @ sign and the nickname of the person you are answering questions for or are asking. Then they will get a notification that you have contacted them, and other people see you interact.

2. Send out only tweets with affiliate links! NO….no…no… Do not send messages that only contains promotional messages. People will mark you as a spammer and they will know it if the only thing you send out comes with affiliate links or covered up links or only your own product s. There are many people that have a ratio they follow which is for every 100 messages they send only one of them contains an offer. That way people find you valuable to follow and wont unfollow you just for a couple of links now and then.

3. Define a purpose for you being present at twitter. What’s your purpose for using twitter? If you have different purposes I suggest you get different twitter accounts so you can use them as you please. Because your potential buyers would not want to know what you did this morning, and your aunt won’t buy a traffic video program from you. So define what you want from twitter. Is it personal, for traffic to your site, local customers or just participate in conversations with likeminded people.

4. Get followers to your account. The easiest way to do this is to start following other people that you have an interest in following. Go to search.twitter.com and type in some keywords for your interests and the check out the people showing up in the search results. Hit the Follow button to them and then you get their messages in your twitter account feed. Most of the times people will follow you back since you got the same interest, and thank them in a message, and maybe it will lead to a conversation and friendship.

5. This should have been number one on the list. But people skip long articles and read the first and sometimes last of a post. You should start tweeting right away after you setup your account, tweaking the design and your profile can be done later. Because if you start tweeting right away, other people will spot you in the searches and conversations you have with others. In the beginning you should give much of yourself in free advice, backing people up and give out links to related articles you know about, then it’s a good start.
