Facebook updates – Now you get to know what your friends are surfing on!

Earlier you could see what your friends was chatting on in your mobile application:

Its been a while since this function first was introduced in your mobile application. You could easily see if the person you chattet with was using the internet on a computer or their mobile device. Its been hidden there for a while, but not anymore.

As you can see in the picture, Norwegian Facebook app, you could se the words “Sent from internet” when you chatted with a friend:

You also saw when the person was logged in and on which device he used last:

Then they released the possibility to see when people was last logged in. Also which unit they had been using then. Indicated by seconds, minutes and hours. In addition a little icon for telling you which device was used. As in a mobile phone icon in the picture below.

NEWS: Now you get to know what your friends are surfing on with Facebook

In their last update for Facebook on the web, which not everyone is getting yet, they show off which device you are using in the chat column. Specified by Web or Mobile. Your friends will now know what device you are on and when you switch. We already tested it and its only taking a few seconds for it to update your device. Look in the picture below for how it looks:

So whats your thoughts on Facebook publicly showing off which device you are on? Is it useful, or could you be without it?

Whats your opinion?

Why is every online business owner getting Video Genesis… ?

Hi!

This is the most exciting news of the month.

Here is why…

Finally, after creating what is being called
the best marketing videos ever released
in our industry…

Andy Jenkins and Mike Filsaime have opened
the doors to Video Genesis in what they call
the “Epic Finale” Video

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

I just saw the video and I agree. It is EPIC.

In fact, Mike and Andy went on to say recently

“…we think EVERY Online business owner
that learns about Video Genesis will become
a member of Video Genesis…”

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

The reason is because of these Two Facts

Fact #1 -
You need better video today. Years ago just having
video was good. Now, people judge YOU, your
PRODUCT, and your BRAND based on the quality
of your video (just like they used to, based on your website.)

Check -

Fact #2 -

Price is not an obstacle for any business owner.
They guarantee it.

Turning the industry on it’s head, they are offering what is
normally a $2k product for a price so low you may
think there is a catch. (There is NOT)

Their “agenda,” they say, is to “help as many people
as possible have better conversions online with Video…
…because we want more customers.”

They say there is no catch

…but I do want to warn you about one thing.

The Bonus is going way…

One of the reasons I jumped on it today was the
“Behind the scenes Bonus”

(and wait until you see it.)

This is only available for a few days during the Grand
Opening of this launch. After that 2 things happen

1 – They close the doors.
2 – If they reopen they are not promising that
bonus because they will later sell it as a product.

That was enough for me because learning how they
made their Launch Videos is truly a priceless
product for you and I to own.

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

So that is why you want to get access and get access
today.

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

So go watch their last video NOW! :)

PS – I am checking out how these guys keep you
hooked with funny “hooks” while offering great teaching
and what I think is the offer of the year.

This is Epic – Fun!

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

P.P.S. – If you like “When Harry Met Sally” make
sure not to be drinking chocolate milk when you
watch this Epic Finale Video!

There are 13 Types of Video. Do you know which to use for your marketing?

Have you heard about Video Genesis?

Then by now you have seen some cool videos

from Andy Jenkins and Mike Filsaime.

(If you haven’t don’t worry, everything is all right

here.)

But things just gotten even cooler, if you can imagine.

While you and I wait for the doors to open

on July 9th, Andy and Mike are giving away

what might be the coolest little Gem of this

whole cool series.

Andy and Mike just leaked a cool PDF.

(It was to be part of the course, but now it is yours Free.)

It is a Mind Map of EVERY type of Marketing Video

AND every type of Audio and Video equipment you

will need to use with each style of Video. (Most you already own.)

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

Do you know all 13 Styles of Video?

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

Do you know all 13 Styles of Video?

A Better Question is…

Do you know…

“What style of video to use for different landing pages?”

or

“What style of video NOT  to use for certain landing pages?”

Do you know when a Doodle video converts best?

When to use an Ugly Sales letter and when “not” to use one?

I can go on and on, but that is what the Leaked Mind Map does.

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

Now, if you also love the “crazy” (Cray Cray) antics these guys

are doing and you want more fun while you learn, check out

the Spartan vs Pulp Fiction knee-slapper in this video as well,

it is hard to miss.

http://problogger.no/MakeAmazingVideo

P.S.

Andy couldn’t just let you have a Mind Map. No that was

not good enough. The message had to be “bossy” so

make sure to watch the “Trailer” at the end. It’s a hoot!

How to increase your blog traffic by 600%

Wow, thats a bold title. But you want to know how right? Thats what I thought also. So I wanted to share some results from one of my blog in a case study type of post. Have been holding it back until my blog got accepted into various blog directories that autoupdate on new posts.

But before we go further, ask yourself: Why do you want to increase your blog traffic? If you can answer that with a specific goal, then you can continue, or it will not be worth your time.

Blog traffic overview, showing percent of increase in traffic.

Look at this wonderful chart I put together. On the left side there is the percent going up from ZERO to 700%. It indicates how much blog traffic I got. So 100% is the last 7 days average traffic before I implemented this tactic.

Day 1 on the timeline going to the right, I posted a new blogpost about something in the niche that was newsworthy. Some new thing had been released into the market, and people wanted to know as much as they could about it. So I posted a short but to the point guide to that item. The traffic increased a bit, but Google was a little slow on picking up my site about it.

The next day I posted a review of the item, how it worked for me and what I could see as benefits. As you can see on the chart, the traffic increased a bit more. But know I saw the analytics I have on the blog started to increase rapidly, I was onto something. Or as it really was, Google snapped up my news and ranked me high for various terms regarding the new item.

Day 3, I posted a follow up of all the bad things that this item could cause. But also linked to my other blogposts and a guide to how you could survive without the new item. Google still holds all my posts about the item high in the search results, like in the number 1 and number 2 spots. So that day, my blog hit over 600% increase in traffic from the baseline of the 7 days before this newsposts. Pretty good?

On the next day, I thought I had covered this new item the most I could. So I didn’t post anything. As you can see, the blogtraffic has still an increase over the normal period with around 300% more traffic. And it continued like that from that period of time.

So how do you increase YOUR blog traffic with over 600%?

You have to put up Google Alerts, you find it here: http://www.google.no/alerts

In Google Alerts you can setup alerts for different keywords about your niche that is new on Google. So when you get alerted about something, its probably a trending topic. So it is worth writing about to get your share of the visitors.

Step 1: Research the topic that is trending in Google Alerts or in a news media about your niche

Step 2: Write a detailed post about the item, SEO optimize it and spread it as man places you can.

Step 3: Write a review of the thing that your first post is about, it requires you to test it. Find the benefits, pros and cons about the item/thing.

Step 4: Follow up on the thing/item you have written about. Read other people experiences around the web, collect it and put it into a new blogpost.

Step 5: Cross link your blog posts so people find out all your research and writing about it.

Thats it. If people are interested in it, they want to find the resource with most information about it. Google and other search engines know about that, so they will rank you higher. Hard work, write good and detailed, make your own pictures and reviews and link to other great resources in your blogposts.

Please share your insights in the comment section beneath about your results with using this strategy if you test this out on your own blog.

Improving my blog – 7 Insights you can use NOW

First off, thanks for visiting my brand new blog. That’s what I think of it. The design is different, plugins have made it a better experience for you. And I am really happy for the blog and the future of it.

So what have I done to it?

1. Theme

I changed from the theme called Max Magazine by Sami Ch. It’s probably a good theme, but my modifications in the past made it look ugly and not good. I didn’t like it anymore, in addition to that I haven’t worked for the past few months, CSS didn’t load and the images on the front page didn’t show up.

Back to basics. What’s new with the Twenty Twelve theme from the WordPress team? It looks good, had to update the theme to get it to the latest version, no hassle just plain and simple update.

But I didn’t like it the standard way. I wanted to put in a new header, change the placement of the menu and some appearance.

2. Header

Made a new logo as you can see on the top, name of the blog and some icons to represent what I want to write about. Did it with a logo creation software I use and modified it further in Photoshop to get the whole header good looking. Not 100% satisfied with it, but maybe time will tell me what to do with it.

Untitled-4.jpg

Had to crop it to 960 x 250 pixels in Photoshop before I uploaded it. After I saw it on the blog, it didn’t look good. Lots of whitespace around it, and far away from the top. It was also placed under the menu. Not good.

MENU

To move the menu beneath the header you have to change a theme file.

You need to find this part of code in the Twenty Twelve theme file header.php:

<?php $header_image = get_header_image();

                               if ( ! empty( $header_image ) ) : ?>

                                               <a href=”<?php echo esc_url( home_url( ‘/’ ) ); ?>”><img src=”<?php echo esc_url( $header_image ); ?>” class=”header-image” width=”<?php echo get_custom_header()->width; ?>” height=”<?php echo get_custom_header()->height; ?>” alt=”" /></a>

                               <?php endif; ?>

And move it right above the part “<nav id=”site-navigation” class=”main-navigation” role=”navigation”>

Then the menu and header switched places. All good, but what about all that whitespace around it?

In some themes you have a special CSS field under Appearance in WordPress. Here you can put custom CSS settings, that override the theme settings, since it is loaded after everything else.

My custom CSS settings look like this now:

img.header-image {

                margin-left: -40px;

                margin-top: -24px;

                width: 1040px;

                max-width: none;

}

h1 {

                color: #ff8b02;

                font-weight: bold;

}

a {

                color: #ff8b02;

}

body {

                font-family: “Calibri”, Verdana, serif;

}

The img.header-image is for the header. Set a margin left to -40 pixels, margin to the top by -24 pixels and a width of 1040 pixels. Making it fit perfectly in the content area. But then the image was blurry, because of the 960 pixels it recommended. So I had to go back to Photoshop and get a new one like the header is today. So it’s now 1040 x 114 pixels. Perfect match.

Then I added a new color to h1 tags and links, to go away from the standard blue to more of an orange color, just to stand out of the crowd.

But still there was a gap between the content area and browsers top. I found out that in the style.css file of the theme there was a setting I could change.

This part here:

body .site {

                               padding: 0 40px;

                               padding: 0 2.857142857rem;

                               margin-top: 0px;

                               margin-top: 0rem;

                               margin-bottom: 48px;

                               margin-bottom: 3.428571429rem;

                               box-shadow: 0 2px 6px rgba(100, 100, 100, 0.3);

                }

I changed margin top to ZERO pixels and the same for the margin top rem to zero. Then the gap was gone.

The design of the blog is starting to be as I wanted it in the first place.

3. Picture of me

matsofmatsholmvik.com

Lots of bloggers like to post pictures of themselves. It’s not because they like themselves so much, but more that you can relate to them and see who is behind all these words and pictures.

I found a normal looking picture of myself from a holiday in Christmas. Used Photoshop to crop it, make a black line around it, stronger colors and added some friendly text on it. Doesn’t it look nice on the sidebar?

You can add images to the sidebar by going into the Widgets part in WordPress admin, and there should be a widget to add images in the sidebar.

4. More sidebar

My sidebar had an outdated Twitter plugin to collect my tweets and that was almost it. So I added some stuff to make the site more alive and interesting to your readers. Like adding my top posts, a search field, recent comments and my own little tag cloud so you can see what I write most about. I hope it will be useful to you.

5. Updates – damn those updates

I will recommend everyone to check on their blogs to see if there is some updates to WordPress, themes and plugins. Most of them are updated regularly and will prevent your site from crashing or be hacked. So do it today, go update. I had about 17 plugins to be updated, along with my themes and WordPress. But it went smooth, but in case something go wrong when you do it, remember to backup everything before you start. I once had to manually put in every post after a crash in the early days of WordPress, which is not fun.

6. Plugins

I missed some parts of the blog that I have on my Norwegian blogs. So I compared the plugins, and found some I had forgotten.

WordPress RelatedPosts – to get some related posts showing under the post you are reading

WPtouch - to get your blog to look good on mobile devices

ShareThis – To add sharing buttons to social media under your posts, and on the right side of the browser.

Google XML Sitemap – more about this in the nest section.

As you can see, these plugins make the site overall a much better experience to visitors, like you.

7. Sitemap

Since I found out that I had forgotten to add Google XML Sitemap, I wondered if posts even got added to the search engines. I published a post earlier today, which was in Google about 30 seconds later, which is pretty good. So no worries about that.

I made the correct changes to the plugin, so my sitemaps for pages, posts and categories was created.

Then I headed over to Bing Webmaster tools and Google Webmaster tools. I had to add my site to both places, since I hadn’t done it before. Verified my pages, so they know I own them. Then started to add all my sitemaps to them to get indexed.

I also created a Sitemap link in the footer of the page to notify other search engines about it if they want it. You can do this in the Appearance -> Editor and find the file footer.php. In the file find the part in the theme Twenty Twelve where it says “</div><!– .site-info –>” and add this text right above it “ | <a href=”http://www.matsholmvik.com/sitemapindex.xml”>Sitemap</a>“. But remember to change the href link to your sites Sitemap.

Done for today

I hope you got some insights in what can be done with your site. If there is some parts that lacks explaining, just hit me up with a comment and I will try to help you. Have a great day!

A long time ago, a year or two, a well know blogger started a challenge called NSD. He wanted to challenge someone to build the most earning niche site. One of the sites is still alive today and earning $2708.96 in passive income a month. Or as passive as a site can get. There will always be something to update and fix, but with earnings you can hire someone to fix it.

So do you want to build your own niche site? Participate in a challenge about it?

Its Pat Flynn from SmartPassiveIncome.com which is hosting the NSD (Niche Site Duel). He has already started with the work on his next niche site. And it was quite fun the last time he did it, lots of insights and obstacles to be handled.
